Clinical Specialty: Neurological Surgery

Dr. Doty is a Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University and is the Director of the Neuroscience Institute at El Camino Hospital in California. As Founder and Director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, a part of the Stanford Institute for Neuro-Innovation and Translational Neuroscience, he collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to study the neural, moral and social bases of compassion and altruism. The program has been supported with a large donation given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Dr. Doty is an expert in minimally invasive spine surgery, neuro-oncology and stereotactic surgery. Dr. Doty is board certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is on the board of directors for The Brain and Creativity Institute at the University of Southern California. Dr. Doty also serves on the advisory board for the Fogarty Institute of Innovation.

Dr. Doty received his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine and went on to complete his medical degree at the Tulane University of Medicine. He completed his internship at Tripler Army Medical Center and residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C.
